Since 1920, The League of Women Voters has stood for freedom: freedom to vote, freedom to understand the issues, to serve and be served, no matter how rich or poor. Our mission is to encourage active participation of citizens in government.

Communication
Inform our membership about League work and monthly events through newsletters, email, printed newspapers and online community and county websites.
DEI - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
This committee underscores and fosters the League's DEI goals: 1) Voter Registration: educate and reach out to large groups that are historically underserved; 2) increase recruitment and retention of Black and Latina/o members and focus on nurturing a sense of belonging and purpose for members with a variety of backgrounds; 3) promote diversity, equity and inclusion in every aspect of the organization.
Education
Educate members and take action by lobbying legislators and the Seminole County school board. Learn about differences between public, private and voucher schools and how they are funded. Participate in speaking activities to inform the public of League positions on education issues.
Fundraising
Plan League events that offer fundraising through direct marketing, planned giving, donor cultivation and more.
Government Relations
Monitors and reports on state legislative bills and committee actions on the key issues identified by the League as impacting key quality of life, safety, and general well-being of county and state citizens. Arranges meetings between the League and local legislators to share League goals and concerns, find areas of common interest, and highlight our positions on specific bills which may be before the Legislature.
Gun Violence Prevention
Supports and engages in the work of the state-wide League of Women Voters Gun Safety Committee. Focus on Florida legislation calling for a ban on assault weapons and the expansion of background checks.
Healthcare
This team follows legislative actions that impact Seminole County residents’ healthcare and quality of life, and educates League members and the community on critical health issues. Access to healthcare, opioid use, and cost of medication are several of the health related concerns being followed
Juvenile Justice
Monitor and updates members on all justice issues in Seminole County. The League’s 2018 push for the restoration of rights began as an exercise of the LWVFL Justice Committee. We are very proud to be a part of this successful Florida Constitutional Amendment effort, which removed the roadblocks for those who have served their time and made restitution (excluding capital crime) are again afforded the right to vote. We continue to advocate for nonviolent returning felons rights.
Library Services
Educate League members on issues relating to our county public libraries. League supports full funding of eligible public libraries and promotes awareness of their programs and services
Membership
Maintain membership database and send statistics to state and national League of Women Voters. Plan League new member orientations. Inform members about county League history and values. Focus on growth and retention.
Natural Resources
Track issues confronting Florida's fragile envoronment such as land acquisition, water issues, sustainability and other topics. Support Solar Co-Op as part of our continuing commitment for sustainable energy. Support all county recycling efforts.
Social Justice
October 4, 2023 @ 7 PM via zoom. Initial meeting of interested LWVSC members to determine times, dates and formats of meetings as well as our focus for this year.
Transportation
Closely monitors the construction progress in the county and surrounding areas. Support a balanced, safe and efficient transportation network that will preserve a quality environment and provide mobility throughout the state.
Voter Services
Provides objective, non-partisan information so that voters can make informed, educated choice(s) on local, state, and national candidates and issues. Highlights Constitutional amendments (with emphasis on local and state), by means of holding forums for candidates and public policy issues and providing online publications for county residents.
